About Lauro Golf
Lauro Golf is a 27-hole complex on the A-404 between Alhaurín de la Torre and Alhaurín el Grande, in the Guadalhorce valley at around 300 metres above sea level. It opened in 1992 with 18 holes designed by Folco Nardi, and a third nine by Mariano Benítez was added in 2003; any two of the three nines make a par 72.
Most of the ground is flat and easy to walk, but two holes climb into the foothills, with views over the Guadalhorce valley to the Mediterranean. Century-old oaks were kept, around 12,000 mostly native trees have been planted since, and fourteen lakes come into play. Following Andalusian tradition, the holes are named after bullfighters and bandits.
The clubhouse is the Cortijo El Paredón, a farmhouse from the late 18th or early 19th century with a centenary ficus in its courtyard. Local legend says it sheltered the wounded bandit Pasos Largos, and Republican guerrillas during the Civil War. Lauro hosted the final of the Santander women's professional championship in 2023 and also has a golf academy, paddle tennis school, lawn bowls club and equestrian centre.
Spring and autumn are best, when the valley is green and mild. In summer, book an early tee time, before inland temperatures climb.
