Playa Cabria

Playa Cabria is a small beach of rock and gravel on the quieter eastern side of Almuñécar, about 190 metres long, between Velilla and Playa Calabajío.

About Playa Cabria

Playa Cabria is a small beach on the eastern side of Almuñécar, on Granada's Costa Tropical, between Velilla and Playa Calabajío, which lies about 200 metres further east. It is about 190 metres long and 30 metres wide, and its shore is rock and gravel rather than soft sand.

It belongs to a run of short beaches in the least built-up part of the municipality, together with Calabajío, Curumbico and Barranco de Enmedio. Being further from the town centre, it draws fewer people than the long promenades of Velilla or Puerta del Mar, although it still fills in high season. The water is generally calm, and orchards of subtropical fruit cover the hills inland.

Facilities are basic but sufficient: toilets, showers, litter bins and regular cleaning, a lifeguard team in season, food and drink nearby, and sunbeds and parasols for hire. It is signposted from the N-340 coast road, and there is a small car park with fewer than 50 spaces.

That car park is the main constraint, so in July and August arrive early in the morning or walk along from Velilla. June and September bring warm water without the summer crowds, and water shoes make the gravel easier underfoot.

Nearby places to visit

Next door, Playa Calabajío (200 m) has a little more sand and a short promenade. Heading west towards the centre, Playa de Velilla (1 km) is a long, Blue Flag promenade beach with beach bars and the Aquatropic water park, followed by Playa Tropical (2 km) and Playa Puerta del Mar (3 km) on the central seafront of Almuñécar, beside the Peñón del Santo viewpoint. Beyond the town, Playa El Muerto (6 km) is a naturist beach without facilities, reached on foot from Cotobro and the start of the old fishermen's path to La Herradura. The N-340 links them all, though Velilla is also walkable.
