La Estepeña
Estepa mantecado and polvorón maker with more than 150 years of history, whose factory opens each autumn with a mantecado museum, a chocolate city and a raised walkway over the lines.
About La Estepeña
Estepa is the home of mantecados and polvorones, crumbly Christmas shortbreads made with lard, flour, sugar and almonds and protected as Mantecados de Estepa PGI. La Estepeña began more than 150 years ago as a small confectioner's and now produces more than 2 million kilos each Christmas. Its range covers mantecados, polvorones and other Christmas sweets, plus chocolates made in its own workshop.
The visit starts at the Ciudad de Chocolate, a chocolate model of a famous place that changes every year; in 2026 it recreates Seville's Plaza de España. The Museo del Mantecado shows a 19th-century workshop beside a bonbon room where chocolatiers work by hand. A 3D mapping show tells the firm's story, and a 250-metre raised walkway crosses the factory above the lines. Each visitor gets a tasting.
In 2026 the season runs from 10 October to 5 January, daily 10:00–14:00 and 16:00–20:00, except 25 December and 1 January (5 January mornings only). Tickets are €3.50 until 27 November and €4 after; groups over 15 must book, others just turn up. The production area is closed to visitors from 11 December. Allow an hour; parking outside.
November is best, with the lines in full production and shorter queues than in December. Buy an assorted box to take home. Tip: avoid the busiest hours, 12:00–14:00.
