Palacio de Peñaflor, Écija
Palacio de Peñaflor in Écija is an 18th-century Baroque palace known as the house of the long balconies, its curved, painted façade more than 60 metres long with a continuous iron balcony.
About Palacio de Peñaflor, Écija
The Palacio de Peñaflor stands on Calle Emilio Castelar in Écija, the city of towers, 85 km east of Seville. Built between 1700 and 1775, it stayed in the Peñaflor family until 1958. Its curved façade, over 60 metres long, follows the street and is painted with trompe-l'oeil architecture above a continuous wrought-iron balcony made in 1762, framing a carved Baroque doorway with the family arms.
The town council has restored the façade, lookout tower, stables, staircase and main courtyard, which are the parts open to visitors. The staircase rises beneath a plasterwork dome, the courtyard has a double arcade on marble columns, and the stables have three vaulted aisles. The two-storey tower gives a panorama of Écija's Baroque church towers.
Audio-guided visits last about 25 minutes and cost €3, or €2 for over-65s, children aged 8–12, Carné Joven holders, the unemployed and disabled visitors; under-7s go free. Tickets can be bought online in advance through the Spain Heritage Network booking page. The courtyard and stables are at ground level, but the staircase and tower involve steps. It is a short visit suiting families.
Écija is one of Spain's hottest towns in summer, when visits run mainly in the morning, so spring and autumn are best. Winter hours are roughly 11:00–13:30 and 16:30–18:30 on weekdays; check before travelling.
