Almazara Oro del Desierto
Family organic olive oil mill on the edge of the Tabernas Desert with a museum of its 1925 mill, receiving visitors since 1999; its oil entered the Flos Olei Hall of Fame in 2026.
About Almazara Oro del Desierto
The family behind Oro del Desierto farms organic olive groves around Tabernas, where the semi-arid climate and long sunshine give healthy, slow-ripening fruit. In 1999 it opened the Los Albardinales mill and museum to the public. Its extra virgin oils have won national and international prizes since 2008, and in September 2026 the brand entered the Flos Olei guide's Hall of Fame with 100 points.
The standard visit, of 45 to 60 minutes, explains how oil was made in the 1925 mill preserved as a museum, with its stone rollers and presses, and how it is made today in the new almazara. It ends with a tasting of the organic oils. A longer visit adds the grove, 10 km away. The shop sells the oils, balsamic vinegar, organic wine, olive pâté, capers and local honey and salt.
Mill and museum visits run Monday to Friday at 12:30 and 16:30, booked in advance, for groups from two people. Tabernas tourist office lists the price at €10 per adult, free for under-12s (check when booking). Visits are in Spanish and English, and in French with notice. The restaurant opens daily except Thursdays, 9:00 to 18:00, for lunch only, and six rural houses stand 300 m away. Parking on site.
The olive harvest, from October to December, is when the mill is pressing. The business closes for holidays in late August and early September. Buy the new-season oil in autumn. Tip: book lunch at Los Albardinales, whose menu is built around the oils.
