Bar Goya, Carmona
Carmona's oldest bar, in a 15th-century building with a Mudéjar tiled facade on Plaza de San Fernando, serving home-style tapas such as alboronía and rabo de toro for some 70 years.
About Bar Goya, Carmona
Bar Goya occupies a 15th-century building with a Mudéjar facade beside the tiled Renaissance house on Plaza de San Fernando. Local accounts call it Carmona's oldest bar: its founder, Antonio, known as el de la cantina, gave up the canteen at the old railway station to run it, and the house cites 70 years of cooking. Inside are brick arches, painted beams and tall shuttered windows over the square.
The menu is Andalusian home cooking. Alboronía, a slow stew of aubergine, courgette, pepper, tomato and pumpkin, is the local dish; then espinacas con garbanzos, rabo de toro (oxtail), riñones al Jerez (kidneys in sherry), carrillada and grilled pork liver. Fried hake, squid and salt cod, jamón ibérico and tocino de cielo, a rich egg-yolk custard, complete the list. Most dishes come as tapa, half or full ración.
Tapas cost €3.50–4.50, half-raciones €9–10 and raciones €10–18 (2026), but no tapas are served Friday to Sunday; expect €20–30 per person. The menu comes in English and there are tables on the square. Hours vary by season, so phone +34 954 143 060. Carmona is 35 km east of Seville.
Come for lunch at 14:00 after the Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla, or on a weekday evening when tapas are available. Holy Week fills the square. Order alboronía and espinacas to compare two stews with Moorish roots.
