About Playa Punta Lejos

Playa Punta Lejos is the name given to the sands at the south-eastern end of Conil de la Frontera's seafront, on the Costa de la Luz in Cádiz province, around 800 metres from the town beach of Los Bateles. Here Conil's urban shore gives way to open coast.

Los Bateles itself is about 850 metres long and 130 metres wide, with a promenade, a boardwalk through the dune vegetation and a well-known surf break near the mouth of the Río Salado. Cross the river on foot from the south end of town and you reach Castilnovo, a 2.6 km beach of dunes with no buildings, protected for its natural value and popular with windsurfers.

Here there is little beyond sand and public showers, so bring what you need; lifeguards, beach bars, toilets and a supervised summer car park with over 100 spaces are concentrated along Los Bateles. In July and August the car parks fill quickly.

June and September are the best months for warm water and space. Check the forecast for the levante, the strong easterly wind that sweeps this coast; on those days the cliff-sheltered coves north of town are a better choice. Evenings bring sunsets over the Atlantic.

Nearby places to visit

The nearest neighbour is Playa de los Bateles (800 m), Conil's main town beach, with a promenade, lifeguards in season and a Blue Flag. Further south-east along the coast, Playa del Cabo de Trafalgar (10 km) lies in the municipality of Barbate. Golfers have three courses around Chiclana de la Frontera to the north: Club de Golf Campano (10 km), Sancti Petri Hills Golf (10 km) and Golf La Estancia (12 km), all reached via the coast road north. A practical plan is a morning on the sand here, lunch in Conil's old town, and an afternoon round near Chiclana when the wind drops.
