Museo Picasso Málaga

The Museo Picasso Málaga shows Pablo Picasso's work across his whole career in the city where he was born in 1881, in the 16th-century Buenavista Palace in the heart of the old town.

About Museo Picasso Málaga

The museum opened on 17 October 2003 in the Buenavista Palace, built in the 16th century for Diego de Cazalla over the remains of a Nasrid palace and declared a National Monument in 1939. Its core collection of 285 works was donated by Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, the artist's daughter-in-law and grandson.

The permanent collection follows Picasso from his early academic studies through Cubism to the expressive late paintings, with drawings, sculpture and ceramics alongside the canvases. Temporary exhibitions place his work beside other artists of the 20th century.

Don't miss the basement, where excavations uncovered layers of the city's past: a stretch of Phoenician wall and towers, part of a Roman factory for garum fish sauce, and Nasrid remains. Allow around two hours, and book tickets online in busy months.
