Glass and Crystal Museum
A private museum in an 18th-century house in Málaga's old town, showing about 700 glass pieces from Phoenician times to the 20th century on guided tours.
About Glass and Crystal Museum
The Museo del Vidrio y Cristal is a private glass museum in Málaga's historic centre, at Plazuela Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre 2, opposite the church of San Felipe Neri in the old artisans' quarter that takes the church's name, about ten minutes' walk north of the cathedral.
It was created by its owner, Gonzalo Fernández-Prieto, and opened in 2009 in an 18th-century casa palacio with patios and gardens. About 700 glass pieces, from brightly coloured Phoenician work of the 6th century BC to the 20th century, are shown over two floors among period furniture, paintings and rugs, so it feels like a private house. The sequence runs from Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Byzantine and Islamic glass to Venetian, Bohemian and Dutch pieces, 18th-century glass from La Granja, Thomas Webb's English cameo glass, and Lalique and Whitefriars. English Pre-Raphaelite stained-glass windows fill the ground floor.
All visits are guided. The museum is closed on Mondays and throughout August, so check current hours before you go.
As an indoor visit it suits any season, and is a good escape from Málaga's summer heat. Book a late-morning tour, then stay in the old town for lunch.

Four more museums are within a short walk. The Málaga Holy Week Museum (300 m), in the former Hospital de San Julián, shows Holy Week processional art all year, and the Interactive Music Museum (300 m) displays around 400 instruments in the Palacio del Conde de las Navas. The Flamenco Museum (400 m) is run by the Peña Juan Breva, a flamenco club founded in 1958. A little further, the Málaga Museum (700 m) fills the former customs house below the Alcazaba and is the largest museum in Andalucía. For the sea, Playa La Malagueta (1 km) is the city-centre beach, at the end of the port promenade.
