Torremolinos

The original Costa del Sol resort, with long beaches, the fishing quarter of La Carihuela and family attractions.

Why visit Torremolinos

Torremolinos was one of the first places on the Spanish coast to welcome mass tourism in the 1950s and 1960s, and it still has a lively, sociable feel. Its two main beaches, Bajondillo and La Carihuela, run along a long promenade, and the old fishing quarter of La Carihuela keeps some of its original character. Torremolinos suits families, budget travellers and anyone wanting beaches and nightlife close to Málaga airport.

What to see and do in Torremolinos

Walk the Calle San Miguel shopping street down to the steps that lead to Bajondillo beach, then follow the promenade to La Carihuela and on to Rincón del Sol. The Molino de Inca botanical garden is a peaceful escape, and the Casa de los Navajas, a neo-Mudéjar mansion by the sea, is open for visits. Families can choose between the Crocodile Park and the Aqualand water park, and there is mini golf. Golfers can practise at the Miguel Ángel Jiménez Golf Academy. Málaga is 15 minutes away by train.

A day in Torremolinos

Spend the morning on Bajondillo beach, then walk the promenade to La Carihuela for a lunch of espetos. In the afternoon, visit the Molino de Inca botanical garden or take the family to the Crocodile Park. In the evening, stroll Calle San Miguel and the town centre.

Food and local life

La Carihuela is known for its fish restaurants and espetos, sardines grilled on skewers over driftwood fires. Try pescaíto frito, fried fish served in mixed platters, with a cold beer or a glass of Málaga wine.

Around Torremolinos

Torremolinos is in the Costa del Sol comarca, between Málaga and Benalmádena. Málaga city is 15 minutes away by train, and Mijas Pueblo and the Sierra de Mijas are 20 minutes inland. Torremolinos is also one of the most welcoming towns in Spain for LGBTQ+ travellers, with a long-established scene and a lively Pride festival in June. Longer-stay visitors use it as a winter base, as the coastal train makes car-free trips easy and the climate is mild year round. Benalmádena's cable car, Selwo Marina and the Buddhist Stupa are a few minutes away, and the steps of the Bajondillo link the town centre with the beach.
