Vía Verde de los Molinos del Agua

A 33.2 km greenway on the narrow-gauge Buitrón mining railway from Valverde del Camino to San Juan del Puerto, past Beas, its watermills and Trigueros; mostly downhill southbound.

About Vía Verde de los Molinos del Agua

The Camino Natural Vía Verde de los Molinos del Agua follows the narrow-gauge Buitrón railway, built to carry ore from the Andévalo mines to the quays on the river Tinto at San Juan del Puerto. At Valverde del Camino, the line's hub, the offices, passenger building and tall water tower survive. The name comes from the restored watermills on the Arroyo del Renegoso near Beas.

From Valverde station (km 33 in the official numbering) the greenway heads south on green asphalt under stone pines to Los Pinos de Valverde, where a footbridge crosses the N-435. Venta Eligio station (km 25.3), red cuttings and the Pallares halt (km 19.9) follow through cork oak, eucalyptus and pine. Past the site of Beas station (km 12.5) a bridge crosses the Renegoso, near the mills; dehesa leads to Trigueros, then a straight 7 km over wheat fields ends at San Juan del Puerto. Southbound you climb about 85 m and drop 330 m.

The route is free, signposted, with rest areas, and suits walkers, cyclists and reduced mobility. The southern 13 km have almost no shade; refill in Trigueros or Valverde. No bike hire was found in 2026, so bring your own. San Juan del Puerto has a station on the Huelva–Seville line, handy for one-way rides.

Ride from October to May; February to April is gurumelo (wild mushroom) season in the pines. Carry 2 L of water and a puncture kit, and start at Valverde for the shaded, mostly downhill direction.
