Cueva del Tesoro

The Cueva del Tesoro in La Cala del Moral, Rincón de la Victoria, is a cave shaped by the sea, which the town council describes as one of only three known marine caves in the world.

About Cueva del Tesoro

The cave sits under a residential area on the coast of La Cala del Moral, about 11 km east of central Málaga. Unlike most caves in the province, dissolved out of limestone by rainwater, it was shaped mainly by the sea, hence its rounded galleries. Three caves once existed here, El Higuerón, El Suizo and La Victoria; works joined El Suizo, with its Lake Room, to El Higuerón at what is now the Virgin Room.

The visit is self-guided with a free audio guide downloaded to your phone, so bring headphones. The route links several chambers, including the Lake Room and the Virgin Room, with curved walls and pools, and explains the Palaeolithic and Bronze Age finds. On the last Sunday of each month a theatre company stages dramatised visits.

Booking is compulsory, online or on +34 952 406 162; tickets are sold at the cave only if space remains. Adults pay €4.65, and children aged 4 to 14, over-65s and students €2.75, with free entry on weekdays in the first slot if reserved. A lift serves the first chamber, so visitors with reduced mobility can see that area; the rest involves several flights of stairs. There are parking and toilets.

Allow about an hour. Hours are 10:00–14:00 and 15:00–18:00 from October to April, and 10:30–14:00 and 16:30–20:00 from May to September, with last entry an hour before closing.
