Real Club de Golf El Candado is a nine-hole course in the El Candado residential area on the eastern edge of Málaga city, about 7 km from the centre and just inland from El Palo; you can see it from the motorway towards Motril. It opened in 1968 to a design by Carlos Fernández Calleya, making it one of the first courses on the Costa del Sol.

The course fills a small valley. It is short, at a little over 2 km for the nine holes, but far from flat: rolling, tree-lined fairways lead to small, contoured greens, some of them looking out over the sea and the surrounding hills. Accuracy and a good short game count for more than length, so it suits a quick round or building confidence. There is also a driving range and a putting green.

Golf is one part of a private sports club that also offers members sailing and tennis, with a restaurant and bar. Club, buggy and trolley hire are not listed, so bring your own equipment and contact the club about visitor access first.

October to May is the best season. In summer, book the first tee times, before the heat builds.

The nearest beach is Playas del Palo (2 km), a string of sandy coves between breakwaters in Málaga's old fishing district, known for sardines grilled on espetos. Just east, Playa de la Araña (2 km) is a narrow sand-and-pebble beach below limestone cliffs whose caves were used by Neanderthals. Over the municipal boundary, Playa Cala del Moral (4 km) fronts the village of La Cala in Rincón de la Victoria. Towards the city centre, Playa La Malagueta (6 km) is the beach closest to the old town and port, where the Sea Museum Alborania (7 km) is closed while it is rebuilt as the Museo Alborán.
