Playa Mar Rabiosa

Playa Mar Rabiosa is the busiest town beach of San Juan de los Terreros in Pulpí, about 250 metres of golden sand facing El Pichirrichi, an islet reachable on foot when the water is low.

About Playa Mar Rabiosa

Playa Mar Rabiosa is the busiest town beach of San Juan de los Terreros, the coastal village of Pulpí near the Murcia border. It is short, about 250 metres of golden sand and 20 metres wide, with a seafront promenade behind it, and it faces El Pichirrichi, a small uninhabited islet that can be reached on foot when the water is low.

The name means 'raging sea', a contrast with neighbouring Mar Serena, and Mar Rabiosa is the more exposed of the two. Further offshore lie Isla de Terreros and Isla Negra, volcanic islets with seabird colonies, popular for snorkelling and kayaking. On the hill above the village stands the Castillo de San Juan de los Terreros, an 18th-century fort built under Carlos III to guard this coast.

It holds a Blue Flag and the Q tourism quality mark, and has lifeguards, beach bars, showers, a children's play area and a sports area, with step-free access and parking. Inland, the giant Pulpí Geode in the old Mina Rica can be visited on tours booked in advance.

Come in June or September; in July and August arrive early, as this is the village's most crowded beach. Otherwise wait for late afternoon, when the day's crowds begin to thin.
