About Playa de Punta Candor

Playa de Punta Candor is a natural Atlantic beach on the coast of Rota, north-west of the town on the road towards Costa Ballena. It is about 1,500 metres long and fairly narrow, at around 35 metres. The golden sand is backed along its whole length by a protected dune system and native vegetation, so there is little building in sight.

The beach combines that wild setting with good services. It has a long Blue Flag record and has lifeguards in season, toilets, showers, a beach bar, sunbed and watersports hire, and children's and sports areas. The sea usually has moderate waves, and the beach is used for kayaking and sailing.

You reach it from Avenida de Punta Candor, where a car park with more than 100 spaces leads to paths across the dunes. In 2022 Rota council relaid the main access, using paving suited to this sensitive setting and no concrete, and added lighting at the viewpoint. An urban bus also serves the area.

June and September give warm water without the peak-season scramble for parking. Arrive in the morning to get a space close to the sand. Or come late in the day: the beach faces west across the Atlantic, so the sunsets are excellent.

Nearby places to visit

Rota's town beaches are a short drive south-east. Playa de la Costilla (3 km) is the long main beach beside the old town, and Playa del Rompidillo (4 km) is closer to the town centre. Both have flown Blue Flags. Playa Virgen del Mar–Puntalillo (3 km) is another option on Rota's coast. For golf, Rota Golf Club (4 km) is the nearest club. Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club (4 km) sits in the Costa Ballena resort to the north-west, between Rota and Chipiona. A morning round at either pairs well with an afternoon and sunset back at Punta Candor.
