About Playa del Rompidillo
Playa del Rompidillo is Rota's town beach on the Bay of Cádiz side, running east from the marina below the old town. Together with El Chorrillo it forms one urban beach about 1,700 metres long and 45 metres wide, between the Port of Rota and the military port of the naval base.
A promenade runs along the sand with views of the old town, where the Castillo de Luna stands, and doubles as a viewing point for shows and outdoor events. The bay keeps the water calm, but strong winds are common, and the municipal Theresa Zabell sailing school next door hires out equipment. To the north-east, the low cliff point of Pico de Barro marks the end of the main beach.
It has held the Blue Flag, and it received the Q de Calidad Turística in 2014. There are lifeguards, showers, toilets, beach bars, sunbed hire, a children's area and a surf zone. Access is step-free, there is unsupervised parking for over 100 cars, and urban buses stop nearby.
Visit in June or September for warm water without peak crowds. Swim in the morning, when the beach is quieter, then return for an evening stroll into the old town.

Rota Golf Club (1 km) is the nearest course. Playa Virgen del Mar–Puntalillo (1 km) is another of the town's beaches, and Playa del Chorrillo (2 km) is the narrower north-eastern end of this same shore, past Pico de Barro. Further west, Playa de Punta Candor (4 km) is a wide beach reached across dunes, one of the few where dogs are allowed. Buses from the town centre reach it.
