Zoo de Córdoba
The Zoo de Córdoba is a municipal conservation zoo in Córdoba, opened in 1968, with more than 500 animals of over 100 species on 4.5 hectares, 1 km from the Mezquita.
About Zoo de Córdoba
The Zoo de Córdoba, now the Centro de Conservación Zoo Córdoba, was one of Spain's first zoos. It began in 1967 as an 8,000 m² park and opened officially on 15 May 1968. Run by the city council, it now covers about 4.5 hectares beside the Cruz Conde park, south-west of the old town, with more than 500 animals of over 100 species. It works on research, education and breeding threatened species, including the Iberian imperial eagle.
Animals are grouped by continent: African, American, Asian, Australian, Eurasian and native fauna. Children can look for lions, giraffes, zebras, hippos including the endangered pygmy hippo, ostriches, meerkats, Madagascar lemurs, tigers and leopards, and a footbridge crosses a pond under old trees. Keepers give occasional weekend talks, and in summer families can stay the night in tents (€20 per person in 2026).
It opens Tuesday to Sunday and on holidays from 9:30, closing at 18:00 from November to February, 19:00 in March, June, September and October, 20:00 in April and May and 14:00 in July. It is closed all August. Tickets cost €5.50 for adults 17 to 64 and €3 for children 5 to 16 and over-64s; under-5s go free, and large families pay half. You may picnic at the wooden tables, and there is a café with an air-conditioned room. Allow two hours.
Visit in spring or on a winter morning, when animals are active. In July go early, as it shuts at 14:00. Do not feed the animals or use flash.
