Aquarium Costa de Almería

Aquarium Costa de Almería is an indoor aquarium in Roquetas de Mar, opened in 2006, whose route follows the water cycle from the Amazon to a 700,000-litre shark tank.

About Aquarium Costa de Almería

The aquarium stands on Avenida Reino de España in the Las Salinas district of Roquetas de Mar, next to Mario Park and 20 km west of Almería. Opened in 2006 and owned by Senator Hotels & Resorts, it follows the water cycle through four zones: the Amazon, coral reefs, the oceans and the Mediterranean. Staff rear and release loggerhead turtles with the Junta de Andalucía.

Freshwater tanks hold koi carp and pacu, followed by tropical reef fish. The centrepiece is an ocean tank of more than 700,000 litres, seen through a panoramic window, with sand tiger sharks. The Mediterranean area has morays, groupers, a loggerhead turtle and a touch pool with starfish. Extras include a ray tank, koi feeding and a shark-cage dive from age eight.

It opens on most days of the year, usually 11:00–18:00 and later on summer days; check the online calendar. Adults pay €23, children up to 12 and over-65s €19, and under-3s go free (2026 prices). An annual pass costs €48 and gives half-price entry to Oasys MiniHollywood. There is a café and a gift shop. Allow about two hours.

Summer afternoons and rainy days are busiest; weekday mornings outside school holidays are quietest. Buy tickets online and book shark dives several days ahead. On a summer day it pairs well with Mario Park next door: the aquarium in the morning, slides in the afternoon.

Mario Park (next door), Almería's largest water park, shares the same avenue and suits a combined summer day. The coast road leads east past Aguadulce to Playa del Palmer (8 km), a sheltered sand-and-shingle beach. In Almería city (14 km) the Alcazaba of Almería has Moorish walls and gardens, and the Mercado Central de Almería is the place for fresh fruit and tapas. Inland, Oasys MiniHollywood (31 km) combines a western town with a zoo, and the annual aquarium pass gives half-price entry there.
