Bodegas Bentomiz

Boutique winery near Sayalonga in the Axarquía hills, making the Ariyanas wines from 80 to 100-year-old bush vines in slate, with tours, tastings and a gourmet restaurant.

About Bodegas Bentomiz

The vines grow at 500 to 800 metres on the slopes below the Sierra Tejeda: bush vines 80 to 100 years old, rooted in slate and worked by hand on gradients too steep for machines. Bentomiz makes 11 wines under the Ariyanas label. For the sweet wines the grapes are sun-dried on paseros or on floating racks of the bodega's own design, and fermentation is stopped by cold, not spirit.

The tour starts beside the vineyard, moves through the winery and ends with four wines in the salon, with an optional snack of cheese and cold cuts. Lunch at 14:00 offers three, five or ten-course menus by chef André, built on local produce and paired with the wines, which are poured in more than 20 Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe. Bottles are sold on site.

Open Wednesday to Sunday all year; tour and tasting at 12:00, about 75 minutes. Prices in 2026: tour and tasting €20, snack €9.50; with lunch €60.50, €77.50 or €96.50, pairings from €15.50. Under-16s join the tour free. Tours in English and Spanish; stairlift and adapted toilet. From the A-7 take exit 948 for Algarrobo, then the Sayalonga road to a signed track and car park.

Late summer, when grapes lie drying in the forecourt, is the most interesting time; spring and autumn suit lunch on the terrace. Buy the naturally sweet Ariyanas muscatels. Tip: book lunch with the tour, as the tour price is reduced for lunch guests.
