Freiduría Las Flores
Classic freidor on Cádiz's flower-market square, frying cazón en adobo, cuttlefish and baby squid by the quarter-kilo; the Galician-rooted family trace the trade to 1894.
About Freiduría Las Flores
The freidor on Plaza de Topete, better known as Plaza de las Flores, belongs to a line of Galician fryers from A Estrada (Pontevedra) who ran most of the freidurías of Cádiz in the 20th century. Co-owner José Luis Neira traces the family business to 1894; his father, Luis Neira Bernal, joined it in 1962. The plaza shop added a bar with tables in 1999, and in 2026 the city council gave it its Premio Turismo.
The menu is short and fixed: cazón en adobo (dogfish marinated in vinegar, cumin and paprika), choco (cuttlefish), puntillitas (baby squid), chipirones, pescadilla, tortillitas de camarones (shrimp fritters) and croquetas. Order by the quarter or half kilo for a paper cartucho to take away, or sit down for raciones with beer, fino or manzanilla. The house cleans and cuts its own fish.
Listings give daily hours of 11:30–16:30 and 19:30–23:30. A ración of choco costs about €8 (2026), and fried fish for two with drinks is usually €25–35. There are no reservations: queue for a terrace table or eat from a cone on the square. Cards are accepted and the bar is level with the plaza. A second branch is on Calle Brasil.
Go before 13:30 or after 16:00 to miss the lunch crush, or around 20:00; queues are long in summer and at Carnaval. Tip: ask for a cuarto variado (mixed quarter) to try several fish at once.
