Playa del Chorrillo

Playa del Chorrillo is the north-eastern stretch of Rota's town beach on the Bay of Cádiz, a narrower section of golden sand beyond the Pico de Barro cliff point, with calm but often windy water.

About Playa del Chorrillo

Playa del Chorrillo is the north-eastern stretch of Rota's long town beach, on the northern shore of the Bay of Cádiz. Officially it and El Rompidillo form a single urban beach of about 1,700 metres running from Rota's marina towards the naval base; El Chorrillo is the narrower section beyond Pico de Barro, a small cliff point, with vegetation bordering the sand.

The bay shelters the water, so it is generally calm, but strong winds are common, which suits sailing and windsurfing. The sand is golden and the beach looks across the bay towards Cádiz.

In 2019 the town hall spent around €100,000 on new boardwalks along the whole beach, stairs, showers and footbaths, and there is an adapted bathing point for disabled visitors. The beach has held the Blue Flag, lifeguards are on duty in season, sunbeds and umbrellas can be hired, and urban buses and an unsupervised car park serve it.

June and September bring warm water without the July and August crowds. Come in the morning, when the sun rises over the bay and the sand is quietest; on days of strong wind, it suits windsurfers better than swimmers.
