Playa de las Salinicas is a small natural beach just south of Carboneras, on the coast of the Levante Almeriense, reached directly from the road that runs down this shore. It takes its name from an old salt pond nearby, a reminder of the town's salt-making past. From the sand there are views of Cabo de Carboneras and of the town's power station.

What little is published describes a short beach, about 200 metres long and 30 metres wide, of fine dark sand. The water is usually shallow and clean, and it is used mostly by locals, so it stays quiet even in summer. It lies about 600 metres from the better-known Playa de los Muertos, and the cove of El Corral, framed by volcanic cliffs, is close by.

There are no facilities on the shore, not even a lifeguard, so bring water and shade. The nearest organised car park is the paid one serving Playa de los Muertos, about a 17-minute walk away.

The best months are May, June and September, when the sea is warm but the Almería heat less intense. Come in the morning, before the sun is high over this unshaded stretch.

Next along, Playa El Corral (400 m) is a cove of coarse gravel framed by volcanic cliffs, with natural rock pools that are popular with families. South along the coast into the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, Playazo de Rodalquilar (14 km) is a wide bay with an old coastal battery at one end. To the north, Playa de la Mena (17 km) is on the southern stretch of Mojácar's long beach, where Minigolf Albatros (19 km) faces the sand on the promenade. Club Marina Golf Mojácar (23 km), an 18-hole course with sea views, lies just north of Mojácar.
