About Benalup Golf & Country Club

Benalup Golf & Country Club lies at La Torre, just outside Benalup-Casas Viejas in the La Janda district of Cádiz province. The course looks out over the La Janda valley towards the wooded slopes of Los Alcornocales Natural Park, and it now forms part of the Fairplay Golf & Spa Resort.

Its 18 holes were designed by the Belgian architect Baron Paul Rolin, a former partner of Robert Trent Jones, and opened in 2001; the course was remodelled and reopened in 2017. It is a par 73, unusual in having five par fives, and measures 6,104 metres from the back tees. Lakes run through the round and shape the strategy on many holes, mature trees frame the fairways, and the large greens are strongly undulating. The short par-three 10th, with its open view across the valley, is the hole most players remember.

Facilities include a driving range, putting green, locker rooms and a resident professional, with the resort's spa and restaurants alongside.

Summers in inland Cádiz are hot, so spring and autumn are the best seasons, and the mild winters suit golfers escaping northern Europe. In summer, book one of the first tee times of the morning; in winter, start mid-morning for the warmest hours.
