Mollina
A wine village on the Antequera plain, with local wineries, a harvest festival and a quiet base for touring inland Andalucía.
Why visit Mollina
Mollina sits on the fertile plain north of Antequera, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and wheat fields. It is the main wine village of the Antequera area, and its harvest festival brings the community together each September. Quiet and well connected, it makes a peaceful base for touring the heart of Andalucía, and small-group tours use the area as their base for the week. Mollina suits wine lovers, slow travellers and anyone wanting a rural stay within easy reach of Antequera, Málaga, Granada and Córdoba.
What to see and do in Mollina
Visit one of the local wineries for a tasting of wines from the Sierras de Málaga and Málaga designations. The small hill of the Sierra de la Camorra, just outside the village, has walking trails and views over the plain. The Fiesta de la Vendimia in September includes grape treading, tastings and music. Within a short drive are the Fuente de Piedra lagoon, famous for its flamingos, the Dolmens and Alcazaba of Antequera, and El Torcal's limestone formations.
A day in Mollina
Start with a morning walk on the Sierra de la Camorra for views across the plain. Visit a local winery for a late-morning tasting, then have lunch in the village. In the afternoon, drive 15 minutes to Antequera to see the Dolmens and the Alcazaba, and stop at the Fuente de Piedra lagoon on the way back to watch the flamingos at dusk.
Food and local life
Mollina's wines pair well with the cooking of the Antequera plain: porra antequerana, mollete bread, migas and bienmesabe, an almond dessert. Village bars serve tapas to a mostly local crowd.
Around Mollina
Mollina is in the Antequera comarca, at the heart of Andalucía. Antequera, Archidona and Fuente de Piedra are all within 20 minutes, El Torcal and the Caminito del Rey are under an hour away, and fast roads lead to Málaga, Granada, Córdoba and Seville. That central position is why multi-day tours use the area as a base. The farm tracks around the village and the Sierra de la Camorra are good for easy walks and cycling, especially in spring.

Getting there and around
Mollina is in the Antequera comarca, about 40 minutes from Málaga airport by car and 15 minutes from Antequera, whose station has high-speed trains to Madrid, Córdoba and Granada. A car is needed for wineries and nearby sights. Spring and the September harvest are good times to visit.
