Jamones Era Alta

Family ham producer near Villanueva de Córdoba that rears 100% Ibérico pigs in the Los Pedroches dehesa and runs daily visits to its holm-oak pastures and drying cellar.

About Jamones Era Alta

Era Alta is the farm Antonio Cano's grandparents worked in the dehesa of Los Pedroches, Europe's largest holm-oak pasture, beside Villanueva de Córdoba. In 2016 he took over the family herd and began making his own hams, controlling the whole cycle from rearing 100% Ibérico pigs on acorns to curing and hand-slicing. Hams and shoulders carry the DOP Los Pedroches seal and are made without nitrifying curing salts.

The visit starts in the dehesa, where the family walks you along farm tracks to see the pigs, the oaks and how the pasture is managed; in farrowing season you can hold the piglets. You then see the drying cellar and how hams and sausages cure. Tastings bring Ibérico sausages, Los Pedroches cheese and acorn-fed ham with drinks included.

Visits run every day of the year from 09:00, at the group's own pace; book by phone or email and confirm where to meet. In 2026 the dehesa and cellar visit costs €15, with an Ibérico tasting €45, and the full experience with a lunch of grilled Ibérico cuts €65; under-10s go free. Wear sturdy shoes. Villanueva de Córdoba is about 1 hour 15 minutes north of Córdoba by car.

The montanera, when the pigs feed on acorns, runs from about November to February, and the town holds a Feria del Jamón each October. Buy sliced acorn-fed ham to take home. Tip: the €15 visit includes no food.
